When our grandfather died 7 years ago, I was asked to say a few words at his funeral mass....but I couldn't. For me. losing either of my grandparents was just too unbearable. Well I know I am now older- and I hope wiser and more mature..... Thirteen months ago, the doctors had told us our grandmother would not make it through the weekend and thirteen days ago, she celebrated her 95th Birthday. The love of her family carried my grandmother through these last few years without my grandfather. She was so proud of each of her grandchildren, Lee, Matthew, Greg, Grant and Alexis. She watched as each achieved their own milestones- and against all odds- she made it to my wedding last July. Grandma also got great joy in knowing her great granddaughter, Reed, and her great granddaugther, Felicity, and let's not forget- Bodi- or as she would call him- the big dog! And she loved her extended family, Nicole, Peter and Lillian. I will miss my grandmother every day- our visits and our chats. I will miss her apple pie - and while I tried to learn- I never did get the shovel and the shisel part. I will miss her telling me "my roots are dark" and of course her famous slippers- she could never make enough of those slippers. I was truly blessed to have grown up with our wonderful grandmother. She was generous of heart. Her spirit will always be alive. And she is now finally at peace with grandpa- her one true love of almost 70 years. An angel will be watching over us always. Thank you.
