Obituary for Patricia Frances Lucas

OBITUARY
On Friday, September 23, 2022, in the early morning, Patricia F. Lucas left this earth and went onto eternal life with the Lord our God. Patricia was born in Jackson Heights, Queens on May 16, 1927, to the late Maurice Neil and Minerva Neil (Fitzner).
Patricia graduated from Newton High School in Queens, New York. A brilliant woman and avid reader, she worked as a translator for the United Nations and later as an administrative assistant to physicians at Fox Hospital in Oneonta, New York. She valued education and instilled her love of education in her children, all of whom attended college. She routinely solved word puzzles (including the daily Jumble) and amazed her family by correctly answering Jeopardy questions (particularly final Jeopardy questions). The loss of most of her vision to macular degeneration in her 60s did not diminish her love of literature and thirst for knowledge. She would listen to books on tape and most recently on Alexa. She also continued to follow Yankee baseball games—just as she had done since childhood.
Patricia enjoyed listening to jazz, which led her to meet in early January 1946, the love of her life, Albert Bennington Lucas, an accomplished jazz bassist. They shared a loving marriage until Albert’s passing on June 19, 1983. Albert and Patricia had six children, 16 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. Her older grandchildren affectionately referred to Patricia as “Mommy Lucas,” and her younger grandchildren referred to her as “Mimi.” Whether called Mommy, Mommy Lucas or Mimi, she was fiercely protective of her family and loved them dearly, freely sharing stories, knowledge and wisdom.
Patricia, a devout Catholic, recited the Rosary daily and attended daily virtual Masses. She was always ready to pray for those in need and was a comforting voice to her loved ones.
To continue her legacy and cherish her memory, Patricia leaves her six children: Sandra Davis; Maureen Sinkler; Albert J. Lucas (spouse Mitzi Young); Sharon Maddox (spouse Matthew); Tammy Sykes (spouse Kirk); and Patrick Lucas (spouse Julie). Patricia also leaves 27 grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her grandchildren are: Patricia Smith, Khadija Diallo, Albert Diallo, and Sheena Davis (spouse Gerren Bray); Lawrence Sinkler (spouse Chinita ), Randy Sinkler (spouse Josie), and Luke Sinkler (spouse Helany); Kendall Lucas (spouse Michael Carroll) and Jared Lucas; Dennis Heyman, Zoe Heyman, and Sommer Heyman; Matthew Maddox; and Nia Lucas and Kira Lucas. Her great grandchildren and great-great grandchild are: Jolie Diallo; “Gigi” Giselle Bray; Skyler Smith and her daughter Harmony; Kayla Sinkler, Kirsten Sinkler, and “Little” Lawrence Sinkler; Nyah Sinkler,“RJ” Randy Sinkler, Jr., and Madison Sinkler; and “LJ” Luke Sinkler, Jr. and Parker Sinkler. She is also survived by her niece Carol Lewicki, and family; and by her “bonus” grandchildren and great grandchildren Kevin Smith, Krystal Smith, Kyle Sykes, and Sydney Sykes.
Patricia will join, in the resurrection, her husband, Albert B. Lucas; her granddaughter, Corie Sinkler; her sons-in-law, “Big” Lawrence Sinkler and Dennis King; her parents, Maurice and Minerva Neil; and a host of other relatives.

Rest in Peace, Patricia!
I have fought the good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but onto them also that love his appearing. 2 Timothy 4:7-8 KJV.
