My grandma always had a story to tell. She always asked if she was talking too much and we would always say no because we wanted to hear her stories and jokes. My grandma was born Benigna Ferrara. She told us all the story how she hated her first name and when she went to school she would get teased by the kids. She told her mom she wasn't going back until she could change her name. That's when her Aunt suggested the name Mildred and my grandma loved it immediately. She said from now on, my name is Mildred and she was always so proud of her name. My grandma had three daughters and every week she would go to her club meetings and brag about the presents her daughters would give her, new shoes, pocketbooks. My grandma had a friend that told her "you're so lucky you have daughter's, they buy you such nice things, I have 3 sons and they bought me a toilet seat for mother's day". My grandma Never missed an opportunity to go on vacation, go to a party, or play cards. She was blessed to have a lot of grandchildren and great grandchildren. When I was younger I have memories of cooking with my grandma and my cousins. We would have pizza parties and tea parties. I owe my love of cooking (and eating) to her for teaching me it was fun to cook. She would always make us bags of chocolate chip cookies and blueberry muffins and we would beg her to stop making them because we'd always eat the whole bag. My grandma's mind was always sharp. She loved doing cross word puzzles and would always save me the star magazine after she finished the crossword puzzle and fill me in on all the celebrity gossip.

Those are great memories. Thank you Francesca. My Mother told me she picked the name Mildred because her friend in school had that name.
