Obituary for Maria Behury Calderon
In loving memory of
Maria Behury Calderon
1937 – 2021
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Behury, on January 28, 2021. Born in Quito, Ecuador, Behury moved to Buenos Aires, Argentina when she married Carlos (with whom she enjoyed 46 loving years together) and then to New York in the United States, where she raised five children. A vivacious woman, Behury was devoted to her family, ready to laugh at jokes, give hugs, share stories, and care for the sick. After her children were grown, Behury wrote several books and many poems. A devoted Catholic, who was never afraid to speak her mind, she fought against certain injustices in the world, while appreciating and sharing the beauty that life has to offer. Behury was a loving mother to Soni (Stan), Maria (Steve), Nesi, Chuck and Peter; a loving grandmother to Trevin, Stephanie, Lucas, Tyler, Jacqueline, and Dustin; and a loving sister to Sergio. She joins her husband Carlos, her brother Hector, her mother Rogelia and her father Alfredo in the palm of God’s hands. She will be greatly missed.
