Obituary for Katherine Elaine Eriksen

Katherine Elaine Eriksen (née Roper) of Glendale, NY and Morehead City, NC passed away on Saturday, September 9, 2023 after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.

Kathy was born on October 7, 1942 to Eleanor and Theodore Roper in Freeport, NY. Her father was serving in the South Pacific for the Navy at the time of her birth. She attended Freeport Public schools and graduated from Freeport High School in 1960. Kathy was the first girl, at her insistence, to take mechanical drawing at Freeport High.

It was as a 10th grader at Freeport High that she met her future husband, Douglas Eriksen. They dated for two years and got engaged at Kathy’s senior prom. They were married on September 1, 1962 and enjoyed 61 years together raising a family, caring for their beloved pets, gardening and going to the beach.

Kathy was an accomplished seamstress and porcelain artist. For ten years she (along with much help from her husband Doug) ran her own business (The Doll Cottage in Seaford, NY) where she sold dolls, dollhouses and miniatures as well as restored and did custom redressing for antique dolls and toys in her own Doll Hospital. In later years she turned her creative talents to quilting making beautiful blankets, wall hangings and pillows for family, friends, and hospitalized elderly and children.

She is survived by her husband, Doug, son Scott, Scott’s wife Christine and their son Thomas as well as her daughter Jennifer and Jennifer’s daughter Dorothy.

Charitable donations can be made in her name to the ASPCA or MichaelJFox.org campaign for research on Parkinson’s disease.
