John Frederick Walter, 80, of Middle Village died on May 10, 2020.
John was born on Sept. 27, 1939 and, lived all his whole life in Middle Village. He served our country in the 7th Regiment NY National Guard. He was an avid sports fan, rooting for the NY Giants in football. He was born into a Brooklyn Dodger family, then became an avid NY Mets fan from day one. Proud member of the 7th Line Army.
John attended St Margaret’s School, St John’s Prep and College. For many years he worked in offices on Wall Street before opening his own businesses, the Institute for Civil War Research and Big Apple Genealogy, doing genealogy and military research.
Though the years John was very active in his parish of St Margaret’s - Altar Boy, Lector, Eucharistic Minister, Parish Council President, Youth Minister of the High School CCD program for 28 years. In later years John became a beloved member of St Boniface Parish in Brooklyn where he was a Lector.
John was the devoted husband of Margaret (Peg) Killeen; loving father of Mark, Mike, Robin and Brian; adoring Grandfather of James and Jack.
A Service celebrating the life of John will be held sometime in the future.
