Obituary for Ida Tollis

Ida Tollis was born in Pacentro, a serene medieval village in the Abruzzo region of L’Aquila Italia, on June 10th, 1932, the only child of Cristiano Pasquale Della Palma and Enrichetta Cercone. Growing up, Ida helped her parents with cultivating their land and general housekeeping and cooking, which was typical for a young girl in a small village in Italy. Although she was an only child, she had many cousins of her age all around her and she formed very strong sibling bonds with them that has endured for all of her life. In February 28, 1951 she married Antonio Tollis, also of Pacentro, and their marriage lasted until Antonio’s death on July 31, 2018. Their marriage gave them three children, Salvatore Pasquale (Patsy) Tollis, their dearly departed Enrico Tollis and Anna Maria Fiedler. In 1953, Ida was able to travel to Queens, New York with american citizenship inherited from her father, to pave the way for her husband Antonio and her son Salvatore Pasquale to become residents of the United States. Even with the help of friends and family in New York, it was a daunting task for a young, pregnant Italian girl. But she took on the task and in February 1954 her husband and first son arrived in New York to meet her with her infant second child Enrico. Anna Maria was born later in 1958. They raised their children in Middle Village, Queens. Ida was know for her fabulous cooking where Sunday meals were always a banquet of wonderful Italian food Ida is survived by her children, Salvatore (Patsy) Tollis and his wife Josephine and Anna Maria Fiedler. Also her 5 grandchildren , Marc Anthony and wife Liz, Marisa Castillo and husband David, Enrico Tollis Jr and wife Malamo, Lauren Fiedler and John Fiedler. And also her 5 great grandchildren, Velma Jo, Lorenzo, Antonio, Constantine, Niko and John Jr (JJ). Ida loved her family and friends (paisani) without limits. She will be greatly missed by all.
