Dear Mark:
Unfortunately, I will not be able to be at the services for Uncle David due to other prior commitments. Needless to say, I was surprised and saddened to hear of his passing and even more surprised to hear that your mother Grace passed last summer. I am afraid that we are losing a generation of “Chin’s” much too quickly and a rich history of their presence in New York City will be lost forever.
I do recall that your father had a “dry” sense of humor and wit much like his older brothers - Uncle King, Uncle Ming and Uncle Leon. Like Uncle King who went to Columbia, Uncle David was able to get a good education from Cooper Union and had his career in engineering. Before he married, I remember that he used to visit my mom and dad when we lived in Queens Village and Douglaston and we saw him when New Viceroy was still around in the 1950’s. I even recall when my family drove to Buffalo, NY to visit your parents when your dad worked there. What I remember most about your mom (aside from the fact that she shared the same first name as my mom) is that she was always kind and caring and had a very pleasant smile and laugh.
Over time, with my parents moving to California, Aunt Alice and Uncle Al moving to Atlanta and the cousins moving all over the U.S. and beyond, it’s sad that we all lost touch with each other. Regretfully, you and your brother Stephen were much younger than my sister Dorian and I, Bill, Michael, Dennis and Gary Fong, Kingsli and Duane Chin, etc. and we never had a chance to really get to know each other especially after your parents separated. Nonetheless, we do hope that you and your brother are doing well in life and your respective careers.

You and your brother have my sincere condolences over this most recent loss. I will always remember your father and mother with kindness. Please feel free to reach out to me or my sister Dorian in the future; I would love to hear about you and your brother and your lives. Please take care and keep us informed.

Sincerely,
Kenton & Joyce Lee
